Response to Winless Weekend

Stone said that forward Kirsten Davis, defender Hannah Anderson and defender Cassie Hiatt led a great team response in practice to the losses over the weekend.

He said that in practice, Anderson and Hiatt “got after it” after the losses to Baylor and Texas.

“When they get after you,” Stone said, “you better be ready in practice or you’re going to feel like they’re wearing a different jersey that day.”

Looking Ahead to Oklahoma State

Tech head coach Tom Stone said Oklahoma State’s “three studs” in defender Kim Rodriguez and midfielders Grace Yochum and Olivia Dowell are as good as anyone in the country, and Oklahoma State will be a challenge.

“They have a stout roster, they’re very set in their ways,” Stone said, “and they’ve perfected their system and the way they play in it, so that makes them a tough out.”

Rodriguez and Dowell received All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2020, while Yochum and defender Charme Morgan were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.

Rodriguez, Dowell and Yochum were named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team this season.

Dowell leads Oklahoma State in goals (four), assists (three), shots (29) and shots on goal (11).

Big 12 Soccer Difficulty

Texas Tech is 2-2 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma State is 1-1 in the conference.

After Oklahoma State on Thursday, Tech’s schedule includes two top-15 teams in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Poll: No. 9 West Virginia on October 17th and No. 13 TCU on October 28th.

Tech defender Anderson said that in the Big 12, all games are difficult, and the Red Raiders look forward to every game.

“[In soccer] anything can happen at any point, and I think that’s exciting,” Anderson said, “and just knowing that we’re a together team and that we can pull out a win. I think that’s most important and just concentrating on us and making sure we’re doing our part.”
