The trial started Wednesday in a federal district court in San Antonio.

The 2017 massacre left 26 people dead and 22 wounded at the town’s First Baptist Church.

The lawsuit claims the U.S. Air Force failed to report the bad-conduct discharge of Devin Kelley to the FBI, allowing him to pass a background check and buy the gun.

Wednesday’s first witness Kelley’s wife Danielle, whom he reportedly abused.
