Texas Tech Knocks Off Texas in Final Home Game, 1-0

Kirsten Davis’s 54th minute strike into the upper-right-90 was all Texas Tech would need to pick up their second win of the year, 1-0 over Texas.

The strike came quickly off of one of the many counter attack attempts the Red Raiders had on the night. Senior left back Amanda Porter played a through ball into an open space where Davis would run free for around 15 yards before letting the eventual game winner fly from 20 yards out.

The goal brought the crowd, limited to 25% capacity, to their feet. Coach Stone credited the Red Raider faithful all season for making the stands feel 50-75% full, which he stated made a huge impact on the team.

Halftime Adjustments

With Texas controlling possession and the offensive attack, 3-1 advantage in shots on goal, in the first half, Texas Tech coach Tom Stone made some halftime adjustments to allow his team to be more aggressive.

“It was an encouragement [to be more aggressive] at the half in the locker room,” said the 13th year head coach.

This opened the game up for the Red Raiders offensively, who outshot the Longhorns 9-5, including a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal, in the second half.

King Back on Her Throne

Of the four second-half shots on goal from the Red Raiders, one came from senior forward Jade King, who made her first start since Sept. 1, 2019, due to time missed from an injury.

Difference a Healthy Roster Makes

The Red Raiders were able to boast a complete roster for the first time this season, with every player who is not out for the season being able to suit up.

Coach Stone believed this season would have looked a lot different for the Red Raiders had they had a fully healthy roster.

“Don’t get me started,” Stone loudly acclaimed. “The reality is we have a great roster and tonight we saw it fully flexed.”

Sophomore goalkeeper Madison White and the Texas Tech backline pitched their second consecutive home shutout. White collected six saves in her second win of the year.

Up Next

WIth the loss, Texas falls to a tie for fifth place in the conference with Baylor. With no games left, the Longhorns will remain in that position to end the season.

Texas Tech will head to Manhattan, Kansas, on Nov. 13 for their final game of the season. The Big 12 Conference preseason favorites can finish the season no higher than 7th place in the standings.
