Two cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Lubbock, TTU accommodating to outbreak

As of March 17, two cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Lubbock, Texas.  Both cases were unrelated to one another and it is suspected they caught it while traveling.  The City of Lubbock held a press conference on Tuesday, March 16 and concluded that it was too early to discuss further detail.  Both citizens were not hospitalized, but were sent home to self-monitor.

Texas Tech

Texas Tech University will remain open, and classes will resume online March 30 through the end of the semester. Hospitality Services will reduce operations to a limited number of locations on campus and will mainly offer ‘grab & go’ products. The library will remain open with limited staffing and service available.

The student recreation center is closed, and all events scheduled at United Supermarkets Arena or at the Student Union Building with an attendance of 50 or more people are canceled though May 15.

As far as May commencement, there will be an announcement at the end of the week regarding a modified plan.

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid exposure to the virus. Therefore, continue to practice social distancing in addition to hand washing and using hand-sanitizer when necessary.
