3D printed gun plans may soon be available online again

Thanks to a federal rule change, it may soon again be legal to put blueprints for 3D printed guns online.

Austin resident Cody Wilson first made the plans available at his website in 2013.

The State Department and a federal judge separately blocked the plans from the Internet.

The Trump administration has proposed shifting authority of some small arms and ammo exports from the State Department to the Commerce Department, a move that would relax the relevant regulations.

The White House may announce the transfer of authority any time.
