A psychology professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is the state’s Psychologist of the Year.
The recognition for Doctor Alfonso Mercado comes from the Texas Psychological Association where starting in January he will serve as the group’s president the next four years.
Doctor Mercado has been a pioneer in his specialty area of multicultural mental health since he started with UTRGV in 2012.
