Mandatory Evacuations Lifted Around SETX Chemical Plant

(Port Neches, TX) — Mandatory evacuations are being lifted for the area around a Southeast Texas chemical plant.

Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick says the four-mile radius around the TPC Group facility in Port Neches [[ NAY-chuss ]] is safe, although there is concern with asbestos debris.

Air sampling tests are being analyzed and will be revealed later today. People who see a white chalky substance in their yards should call 866-601-5880.

The chemical plant started burning earlier this week and an explosion on Wednesday forced the evacuation of Port Neches, Nederland [[ NEE-der-land ]], Groves, and part of Port Arthur. The fire is not out.
