University of Texas Discovers that Sulfur is what Led to Dinosaurs Becoming Extinct

Researchers from the University of Texas are shedding new light on the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs.

The study published in the journal PNAS estimates that the seven-and-a-half-mile-wide asteroid struck off the Yucatan Peninsula 66-million years ago with the force of ten-billion atomic bombs.

It triggered a tsunami and sparked wildfires 900 miles away.

The UT team says the initial impact killed many dinosaurs, but sulfur that was released into the atmosphere and blocked out the sun is what led to their extinction.
