KTXT’s Guide to Minneapolis

We are no experts, but our 24 hours here in the heart of Minneapolis and the interactions we’ve had so far with the Minnesotans, have given us some insight on what Texas Tech Fans need to see when they get here.

The obvious ones:

1. Mall of America

60 E Broadway, Bloomington, MN 55425

If you didn’t spend enough money getting to the Final Four, be sure to head to the Mall of America to clean out your bank accounts. It is the largest mall in the country with almost 3 million feet of retail space and the shopping center generates almost $2 billion in annual revenue for the state of Minnesota. Make time this weekend to take a look for yourself.

2. Minnehaha Park

801 S Minnehaha Drive Minneapolis, MN 55417

The weather right now in Minneapolis is 42 degrees and foggy, but if you want to be outside in that, the locals recommend Minnehaha Falls. It might be a little chilly to enjoy the park this time of year but it’s got a great view and is a hot tourist destination or anyone visiting the city for the first time.

3. Walker Art Center

725 Vineland Place, Minneapolis, MN 55403

This weekend is definitely packed with sports, but if you get the craving to culture yourself while visiting Minneapolis, check out the Walker Art Center. Adult tickets are $15, $10 with a student ID. And anyone ages 0-18 gets in free! If you need Instagram worthy shots, check it out while you’re in town.

4. The University of Minnesota campus

100 Church St. S.E. Minneapolis MN 55455

Former KTXT volunteer, DJ Cold Turkey is currently a student at the UMN. He and everyone else we’ve asked have said fans need to see the beautiful campus. Even people who aren’t from Minnesota have told us to check it out! When you visit, keep an eye out for the shoe tree, this is a tradition where students toss their shoes into the tree after graduation.

5. Final Four Fan Fest

1301 2nd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55403

Tip off your weekend with a trip to Final Four Fan Fest presented by Capital One. As you take your first steps through the Minneapolis Convention Center doors, you’ll be greeted by a sports wonderland of interactive games, special celebrity and athlete appearances, autograph signings, and much more!

Where to eat:

6. Red Cow Burgers

208 N 1st Ave Minneapolis, MN 55401

For college students traveling 15 hours for a basketball game, a juicy burger sounds just about perfect right? The locals said Minneapolis is known for their Red Cow burgers. The place won’t break the bank any more than it already so put it on your list of places to try while here for the Final Four.

7. KhunNai Thai

2523 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55404

KTXT’s Music Director Miette suggests that Red Raider fans get a taste of KunNai Thai food while they’re in town. Just don’t get the beef noodle soup, “Everything was good, except the beef noodle soup, it was wack,” were her exact words.

There are tons more awesome places to eat and fun things to see while in the city.

Don’t forget while you’re here to follow @KTXT_Sports for all the info you need from the NCAA Tournament, and let us know where you will be because we want YOU in our next video!
