Southwest And American Both Want Cuba Route Being Given Up By Delta

(Dallas, TX) — Southwest and American are two of the three airlines competing for a Cuba route that Delta Air Lines plans to drop soon.

JetBlue is the third contender for the route.

Delta told the Department of Transportation it will end its Saturday service from New York to Havana on September 1st.

Dallas-based Southwest wants to fly to Havana from Tampa, while Fort Worth-based American would fly out of Miami.

U.S. carriers are allowed a total of only 20 daily round-trips to Havana, so when one becomes available, airlines compete strongly for it.
