UT Profs’ Lawsuit Against Campus Carry Goes To Appeals Court

(New Orleans, LA) — A lawsuit against the Texas campus-carry law is now being heard in a federal appeals court.

Three UT Austin professors sued state Attorney General Ken Paxton and several UT System leaders two years ago, claiming the 2015 law cast a “chilling effect” on their First Amendment rights.

A federal judge tossed the case last year, saying the professors failed to demonstrate that they may be shot by an armed student who disagrees with them. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans heard arguments on Wednesday.
