(Hanoi) — President Trump says he believes Vladimir Putin when the Russian leader denies any meddling in the U.S. presidential election.
Trump told reporters on board Air Force One that every time the two leaders meet Putin insists he didn’t do it. Trump and Putin met briefly on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic summit in Vietnam.
Trump said he thinks Putin is insulted by the repeated question and it’s time to let it go, saying, “you can only ask so many times.”
The President called the Russia claims “an artificial Democratic hit job” despite the conclusions of multiple U.S. intelligence officials that Russia interfered with last year’s election.
Later, Trump tweeted, “When will all the haters and fools out there realize that having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing.” Trump added that he hopes to have Putin’s help in dealing with the North Korea.
