Appeals Court: Federal Government Can’t Release Illegal Immigrant For Abortion

(Washington, DC) — A federal appeals court is issuing a temporary stay in a case involving a detained illegal immigrant in Texas wanting to get an abortion.

The D.C. Circuit ruled today the federal government couldn’t release the minor for the abortion. The court is expected to hear oral arguments on the issue tomorrow.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton praised the ruling, saying the ACLU was trying to turn Texas into a “sanctuary state for abortions.

The 17-year-old is living in a Texas shelter funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
