Brian D. Schroeder, MD, MBA, FAAPL, FACP, SFHM, CPE, has been in a variety of healthcare settings throughout his professional career: riding the streets as an Emergency Medical Technician; working as a critical care nurse in a large university medical center; and leading a community hospital as a nurse administrator, before pursuing his career in medicine. A practicing Internal Medicine Hospitalist & Palliative Care physician since 1999, he is currently the Chief Medical Officer of the Covenant Medical Center and the Vice President for Medical Affairs of the Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock, TX; previously, Dr. Schroeder served as the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer for the Sparrow Health System in Lansing, MI.

Dr. Schroeder is a Fellow of the American Association for Physician Leadership, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a Senior Fellow of Hospital Medicine. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a Certified Physician Executive. He holds the faculty appointments of Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Lansing, MI and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Central Michigan University College of Medicine in Mount Pleasant, MI.

Dr. Schroeder earned his Associate of Arts in Nursing at the University of South Dakota and later earned both his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and his Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, TX. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Michigan State University-Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies and earned his Masters of Business Administration from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He is a three-time recipient of resident teaching awards and was given the Excellence in Teaching award by the 2002 graduating class of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.

Dr. Schroeder is also a Flight Surgeon and Internist with the Air National Guard and holds the rank of Lt. Colonel. He and his wife Nancy have four children, two horses, three dogs and a flock of sheep. In his off time, Dr. Schroeder is working towards his private pilot certificate and likes to sing and play guitar.
