Soccer standouts Janine Beckie and Jaelene Hinkle were named NSCAA All-Americans on Friday, according to TexasTech.com. This is the second time for both Beckie and Hinkle, and the first time in school history that two players have received All-American honors in the same season. Beckie, who is the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and also nominated for the prestigious MAC Hermann Award, was named to the first team, while Hinkle, after being named an Academic All-American first team member, was named to the second team.

Men’s basketball senior Clark Lammert and women’s basketball sophomore Minta Spears have been nominated for the All-State Good Works team for the efforts in volunteering and their exceptional leadership skills. The 20 recipients of the award (out of 251 nominees) will be announced in February. Both Lammert and Spears will graduate on December 13.

For those who made it, there was celebration. For those who did not, there was outrage. The first-ever College Football Playoff was set yesterday, and despite having spectacular seasons, both the Big 12’s Baylor University and Texas Christian University were left out of the top four rankings. Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State were announced as the final four teams who will get a chance to play for the National Championship. TCU, who was ranked third in the rankings last week and beat Iowa State 55-3 on Saturday, dropped to sixth in the rankings. Baylor is ranked fifth. In all, 39 bowl games will be played. TCU will take on Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl on New Years Eve, while Baylor will face Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl on New Years Day. Bowl season will wrap up with the National Championship Game on Monday, January 12th in Arlington, Texas.

The Dallas Cowboys are getting ready for a crucial NFC East match-up with the Philadelphia Eagles.  Dallas rolled the Chicago Bears 41-28 on Thursday to improve to 9-4 while the Eagles fell to the Seahawks 24-14 and hold the same record. The Cowboys are a perfect 6-0 on the road, and need to win their final three games to win the NFC East and make the playoffs for the first time in five seasons.
