Tech Students will loose major bus routes around Lubbock

LUBBOCK-Lubbock City Council will vote on today and tomorrow on eliminating two popular bus routes, that could go into effect immediately after hearing.  The public is urged to attend, especially Tech students who will be affected by this change.  Make a presence to vote.  According to Texas Tech’s Student Body President Hayden Hatch ” Without a strong student presence, I fear that the bus routes might be eliminated, leaving many students without transportation around our city”, written in an email pertaining to this hearing.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING
PROPOSED CITIBUS ROUTE CHANGES/ELIMINATIONS
NOTICE is hereby given that the Lubbock Public Transit Advisory Board will hear public comments regarding proposed Citibus route changes/elimination on the fixed route service. The proposed eliminations are as follows:

Eliminating Route 19 from 24th Street & Quaker Medical District to South Plains Mall
Eliminating Route 34 from 34th Street & Boston to South Plains Mall

The public hearings will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. at Sunset Church of Christ, The Well Meeting Room (next to Sunset Church of Christ), 3723 34th Street, Lubbock Texas and Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the Citibus Downtown Transfer Plaza located at 801 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas The Lubbock Public Transit Advisory Board will make a recommendation to the City Council regarding the potential route elimination.
If approved by the City Council, the route eliminations will take effect on September 29, 2014.  Citibus will accept written comments on the proposed route changes/eliminations until close of business on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.
