Texas Tech posted its fourth win of the season Saturday night as the No. 25 Red Raiders defeated the Texas State Bobcats 33-7 to end their non-conference schedule.

With the win, the Red Raiders move to 4-0 on the season under new head coach Kliff Kingsbury and remain undefeated at Jones AT&T stadium. The Texas Tech defense had another dominant performance, allowing only 17 points in the past two games.

Three Red Raiders found the endzone Saturday, as Bradley Marquez and Eric Ward both caught touchdown passes, while Will Smith returned a fumble recovery for the first touchdown of the game. Additionally, Ryan Bustin’s four field goals tied a school record for field goals in a game, and provided the rest of the points for the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech managed only three points in the first quarter, but Will Smith’s fumble recovery early in the second quarter gave the Red Raiders a 10 point lead. The Red Raider offense did not manage any touchdowns in the first half, albeit Davis Webb coming in for Baker Mayfield early in the second quarter. Ryan Bustin kicked another field goal to end scoring in the first half.

The Red Raiders entered halftime with a 13-0 lead after forcing Texas State to 85 yards in the first half.

Robert Lowe’s 49-yard touchdown run was Texas State’s lone score of the game early in the third quarter. The Red Raiders responded shortly afterwards by a touchdown from Eric Ward.

Eric Ward’s four receptions on the evening were enough for him to make Texas Tech’s career top-10 list for receptions.

Texas Tech finished the game with a touchdown from Bradley Marquez, as well as two additional field goals from Ryan Bustin to bring the score to 33-7 in favor of the Red Raiders. The Texas Tech offense ended the night with 552 yards of total offense, with 434 coming through the air.

The Red Raiders have a bye week coming up, and afterwards go on the road to take on Kansas on October 5th in Lawrence.
