Austin Bombing Suspect Dead

Red Roof Inn in Round Rock, TX.

(Austin, TX) — The suspect in a string of package bombings in Texas is dead. Austin Police officers and FBI agents reportedly moved in to arrest the suspect at a location just north of Austin overnight. They say he tried to run and eventually blew himself up. Shots were also reportedly fired by police. Authorities tracked down the suspect by using surveillance video from a FedEx store in Austin. Two people were killed and four were injured in the bombings that began early this month.

Authorities say the break came in the past 24 hours after the suspect mailed a bomb from a FedEx store in Southwest Austin. Investigators used receipts and security footage from the store along with a warrant for the suspect’s Google search history to tighten the net. The suspect’s cell phone was used to track him to a hotel. Four bombs have detonated since March 2nd. If the dead suspect was responsible for all of them, using a FedEx store was a departure from earlier tactics. Those bombs were left outside and not delivered by delivery companies.
