Sports Update – March 6, 2015

KTXT FM Sports Update LogoTexas Tech basketball ends its regular season tonight, taking on Baylor in Waco at the Ferrell Center at 8 p.m. According to Texas Tech dot com, a win over the 14th ranked Bears would give the team its first back to back wins to close a regular season since 2007. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 2.

 
Lady Raider Amber Battle has been named to the All Big 12 first team this season, making this her second all Big 12 mention after being named to the second team in 2013. Battle was fourth in the Big 12 in scoring this season, and led the Lady Raiders to an improved record of 15-15 overall. The senior hit 1,000 points in her last regular season game as a Lady Raider, becoming only the 31st women’s player to do so. The Lady Raiders take on West Virginia at the Big 12 Championship tonight at 8:30 p.m. in Dallas.

 

Baseball is on the road this weekend, but Red Raider softball has its opening weekend here in Lubbock, taking on Utah Valley, Tennessee-Martin, and UT Arlington. Tech will play two games on Friday, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday during the Texas Tech Invitational. The Red Raiders are currently 9-10 overall. All games this weekend will be broadcast live on KTXT and called by Bailey Butler and Ralph Barrera.

 

And finally, former Texas Tech baseball coach Larry Hays has been named to the College Baseball Hall of Fame. Hays coached the Red Raiders from 1987-2008 and led the team to 813 wins. He is the first person from Tech to be inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame, which will take place in June in Lubbock.
