Texas Tech took on Fresno State at the United Supermarkets Arena last night and defeated the Bulldogs 73-56. Devaugntah Williams scored 17 points on the night, leading the Red Raiders, while Marvelle Harris duplicated the performance for the Bulldogs. Texas Tech went to 6-1 on the season, only the 17th time in program history. Up next is Prairie View A&M on Sunday at the USA.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is out of the hospital.  He was released Wednesday morning, one day after suffering two small fractures in his lower back as the result of a two-car, rollover accident.  Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say Newton will not face charges for the accident and was traveling at the posted 35 mile-per-hour speed limit when the other driver pulled out in front of him.  His status for Sunday’s home game against Tampa Bay is uncertain.

NFL owners are unanimously approving the league’s new personal conduct policy.  The strengthened policy includes a minimum six-game suspension without pay for violations involving assault, battery, domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.  Commissioner Roger Goodell says the updated policy will apply to everyone connected to the NFL. The strengthened policy comes after months of consultation with current and former players, the NFL Players Association, law enforcement officials, and domestic violence and sexual assault experts. A commissioner appointed league executive with a criminal justice background will hand out initial discipline.  The commissioner may name a panel of independent experts to hear appeals.  The updated policy also includes league-funded counseling for victims, families and violators, and a more extensive list of prohibited conduct and independent investigative procedures.  The policy change comes after high profile cases of domestic violence and child abuse involving former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, respectively.
