ESPNW has named Janine Beckie its National Player of the Week. The soccer forward earned this accolade, along with the Big 12 Offensive Player of the week honors after scoring both winning goals last weekend against ranked opponent California and Abilene Christian. The Red Raiders, who are 7-0 on the season, are off to the best start in school history. Beckie is the first Red Raider to achieve national player of the week honors and to read the article about her, visit espnw.com

According to texastech.com, the Tech Men’s golf team made its debut in the national rankings this week, coming in at number 16 in GolfWeek Magazine. This is the highest ranking for the Red Raiders since 2010.

University of Texas quarterback David Ash is officially retiring from football. The junior decided to end his football career as a result of suffering too many concussions. Ash received a concussion last September and has only played in two games since, still dealing with the symptoms. Coach Charlie Strong said in a presser that Ash will still work with the football team.

Reigning Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston will not play the first half of Florida State’s game this weekend against Clemson, ESPN reports. According to sources, Winston was seen in the FSU student union shouting an obscene phrase that has become popular on the internet. This is not the first troubles for the quarterback. He was accused of sexual assault in 2012 and reportedly stole crab legs from a Publix grocery store over the summer.

In more NFL domestic violence news, Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer is joining the list of NFL players dealing with legal troubles. Phoenix television station 3TV reports Dwyer has been arrested for domestic violence.  The 25-year-old serves as the Cardinals backup running back to Andre Ellington.  Under the league’s new policy for domestic violence, Dwyer could face a six-game suspension after being charged with aggravated assault and preventing someone from calling 911.
