Austin looks to ban hand held devices while driving

KTXT Texas NewsAustin, TX —  The Austin City Council is going to consider an ordinance banning drivers from touching handheld devices August 7th.

The proposal makes it illegal for drivers to touch their phone, tablet, GPS, or laptop while sitting in a vehicle, motorcycle, scooter or bicycle.  The city already has a ban on texting while driving.  Supporters say the ordinance would make the roads safer.  Opponents say it’s painting too fine a line between touching a phone and changing a radio station on the car radio.
